During the emergency situation, “Rīgas satiksme” central dispatcher continuously monitors occupancy of the cabin and assigns additional 50 transport units during working day, which perform 215 public transport trips. It is also the duty of the central dispatcher to continuously monitor movement of public transport and to act promptly on each application or call.
During the emergency situation, the central dispatcher has an additional duty to follow the occupancy of the public transport cabin. Information about cabin occupancy during the day is received mainly from public transport drivers, controllers, as well as from other sources - automatic passenger counting systems, customers, other specialists of "Rīgas satiksme". If the cabin occupancy exceeds allowable distance and passengers cannot observe sufficient distance, the controllers react immediately by assigning an additional vehicle on the route.
Daily life of "Rīgas satiksme" central dispatcher is operative work. This means that reports of disruptions to public transport, accidents and other situations on routes are continuously received and recorded. He also gives orders to specialists who are responsible for regularity of public transport, ensuring technical condition, arrangement and renewal of public transport on the routes. For example, if a vehicle has technical problems, the central dispatcher plans how to take the vehicle to repair shops and assign another vehicle to the place of incident. Or, if the transport driver informs about the presence of a homeless person in the cabin, the central dispatchers contact municipal police.
The central dispatcher works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 6 specialists work in one shift - one senior and five central dispatchers. At night, three central dispatchers work on site, because although public transport does not run, the tram track, the catenary and the parks, vehicle repair, cleaning and other works are carried out at the depot and operational support and assistance in organizing the work is needed.
